Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin Says Insure Oklahoma May be Extended Through 2015.
We at The McNett Agency, a Tulsa-based employee benefits brokerage, expected that the popular Insure Oklahoma program would end on December 31, 2013.
Then, in a surprise move, the powers-that-be in Washington allowed the program to be extended through 2014.
Now, according to Gov. Mary Fallin, we may see another extension that will keep the Insure Oklahoma program viable through 2015.
According to an article in the Tulsa World, Fallin said in a meeting of the Tulsa Regional Chamber of Commerce, “I don’t have confirmation totally on this, but I have good word that we may get another one-year extension of Insure Oklahoma.”
This is welcome news to the many Oklahoma employers who use this program to help pay for group health insurance coverage for lower-income employees.
For employees who qualify income-wise, the Insure Oklahoma program reimburses the employer for 60% of the cost of employee-only group health insurance. Under the plan, the employee is allowed to pay no more than 15% of the premium, and the employer 25%. Subsidies for dependents of the employee can be even higher.
The McNett Agency assists our group medical insurance clients who utilize the Insure Oklahoma program. We help you set up the program for your business initially, then handle enrollments of new employees, deletion of departed employees, and the requalification that each employee must do each year.
